Not every rug lasts forever in the same room. Tastes change, spaces get renovated, a rug that was right for one phase of a home’s life isn’t right for the next. The question for most owners isn’t whether to change the rug it’s what to do with the current one.
Ready for a Change?
Bring your hand-knotted piece to our Denver showroom and turn your current rug into immediate credit toward a new masterpiece.
Our trade-in program offers a straightforward answer: bring in what you have, and apply its value toward something in our collection. No separate sale process, no timing the market, no finding a buyer. The credit is immediate, and the upgrade happens in a single transaction.
The program is available at our Denver showroom and is part of the broader range of rug services in Colorado we offer at Kian.
How the Trade-In Program Works
How the Trade-In Program Works
Assessment
Bring your rug to our showroom or send photos. We honestly evaluate its construction, condition, and secondary market value in just 15-30 minutes.
Credit Offer
Receive a clear trade-in credit based on actual market value. We ensure expectations are set correctly with transparent pricing.
Select & Upgrade
Apply your credit toward any piece in our inventory without restrictions. Complete your upgrade in a single, seamless transaction.
Step 1 Assessment
Bring your rug to our Denver showroom or send us photographs for a preliminary value assessment. We evaluate the piece the same way we evaluate any purchase: construction, origin, condition, and current secondary market value. The assessment takes 15 to 30 minutes in person.
We’re honest about value. If a piece has limited secondary market value, we’ll say so rather than inflate the number to close a transaction. A trade-in credit that doesn’t reflect reality isn’t useful to either party.
Step 2 Credit Offer
We provide a trade-in credit value based on the assessment. This credit can be applied toward any rug in our current inventory no restrictions on which pieces qualify.
Trade-in credits reflect the secondary market value of the piece, similar to an outright purchase offer. They’re not retail replacement value that figure includes dealer margin that we can’t offer as a credit toward a new purchase while still operating a functioning business. We explain this clearly at assessment so expectations are set correctly.
Step 3 Selection and Transaction
Apply your credit toward any piece in the showroom. If the new piece costs more than the credit, you pay the difference. If it costs less, the transaction is straightforward. We don’t offer cash back on unused credit balances, but credits can be applied in stages across multiple pieces if you’re selecting more than one.
What Qualifies for Trade-In
What We Accept
Hand-knotted Persian, oriental, and tribal rugs in saleable condition. The piece doesn’t need to be perfect wear, some fading, and light repairs are acceptable but it needs to be something we can resell through our showroom or dealer network after appropriate preparation.
We accept rugs regardless of where they were originally purchased. They don’t need to have come from Kian.
What We Don’t Accept
Machine-made rugs, tufted pieces, and rugs with significant structural damage (major foundation loss, extensive moth damage, or heavy amateur repair work) are not typically trade-in candidates. We assess borderline cases honestly rather than taking a piece in for a nominal credit that doesn’t serve you.
Preparing Your Rug for Trade-In
A rug presented for trade-in in clean condition receives a more favorable assessment than the same piece in soiled condition. We offer professional cleaning prior to the trade-in assessment if the piece would benefit from it and in some cases, a cleaned rug warrants a meaningfully higher credit than an unclean one of otherwise equivalent quality.
Trade-In vs. Outright Sale: What’s the Difference?
For most clients, the trade-in program is more convenient than selling separately and then purchasing. You avoid the time and uncertainty of a standalone sale, and the transaction is complete in one visit.
The credit you receive is comparable to an outright purchase offer. If your goal is to maximize the total cash received for the rug and you don’t need to purchase a replacement immediately a consignment arrangement or private sale may produce a higher return. We discuss both options at inquiry so you can make the choice that fits your situation.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does a rug trade-in program work?
Bring in (or send photos of) your current rug. We assess its value and offer a trade-in credit. You apply that credit toward any rug in our inventory. Simple as that.
How much credit will I get for my old rug?
Credit reflects the secondary market value of the piece the same figure we’d offer as an outright purchase price. This depends on the construction, condition, origin, and current market demand. We assess and tell you the number before you commit to anything.
Can I trade in a machine-made rug?
Generally not. Our trade-in program is structured around hand-knotted pieces with secondary market value. Machine-made rugs don’t have the collector market that hand-knotted pieces do, and we’re not set up to resell them through our network.
Do I need to clean my rug before trading it in?
It’s not required, but it helps. A clean rug assesses more accurately and typically warrants a higher credit. We offer cleaning coordination if the piece would benefit from it before the assessment.
Can I use my trade-in credit toward any rug?
Yes. No restrictions on which pieces in our inventory qualify for credit application.
